2020 reading list

(cue dramatic voiceover) Previously in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 … some books were read.

The Books

Book Author Thoughts
Grumpy Gits... author :gift: Somehow someone (name elided to protect the "innocent") thought this would be up my street. It is. It's right on-message. But that message only needs to be a couple of pages, a whole book is kinda stretching it. A fun, short, read.
Clean Code Collection Robert C. Martin (Uncle Bob) I do still :bicyclist: to work but < insert excuse here > ... Anyway, every programmer should read this. I thought I should read it again...
How to Stop Time Matt Haig :lock: :gift: A physical book I've had for a while but only got to read it whilst on holiday. An interesting read that should make a fun film ... makes you think about the fleeting nature of life.
Discworld!
Hogfather, The Fifth Elephant
Terry Pratchett :bicyclist: :information_desk_person: Continuing the theme of 2019...

Key

:gift: I was bought this book as a present
:information_desk_person: This book was a recommendation from a colleague / friend
:star: My favourite book of the year
:recycle: I didn't finish it...
:shit: Umm ... not my favourite book of the year
:bicyclist: Yep, I'm still cycling to work
:lock: Read during lockdown!

Excuses for not :bicyclist:

  • It’s cold.
  • It’s raining.
  • My tennis elbow hurts.
  • I’m playing squash tonight.
  • I’ve got to be in early.
  • I’ve got to be home early.

I didn’t say any of them were good excuses…
